Everyone’s favorite time of year has arrived—the season for winter fun at Ober Gatlinburg! This year our snow tubing activities begin November 23rd, and our ski slopes will open early to mid- December. If you’ve never visited us here at Oder Gatlinburg, we’ll give you some of the highlights of our winter attractions and let you in on just how exactly we get so much snow.

Activities for Everyone at Our Snow Park

  • Cubbies Snow Zone: This designated snow area is designed as a discovery play area for kids. While we don’t allow snowball fights (due to safety), guests are encouraged to build snowmen, dig tunnels, create towers, or even build a fort.
  • Snow Tubing Sessions: Our snow tubing sessions are 90 minutes long and provide a fun way for guests to race down our slopes.
  • Ski Sessions: Our scenic ski slopes are beloved by many. Come and ski down our slopes for an unforgettable winter experience.
  • Ice Skating: Strap on a pair of skates and glide around Ober Gatlinburg’s indoor ice arena! Though open year-round, our 140′ X 75′ indoor ice arena is a beloved winter activity for many.
  • Ski and Snowboard Lessons: Our snow sports lessons are designed for beginners through advanced skiers and snowboarders, emphasizing fun and safety first. We are members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). We offer both group and individual lessons and teach the techniques of gliding, slowing down, turning and stopping, so you can capture the thrill and excitement of the sport while having fun.

Many guests often wonder how we get so much snow for our slopes. While we do rely on nature to provide cool temperatures—we also get some help from technology. SnowMagic snow making machine makes it possible for us to extend the availability of our snow tubing activities beyond the normal ski season. SnowMagic works by using state-of-the-art Infinite Crystals Snowmaking technology (ICS™) to create an efficient way to enjoy the beauty and fun of snow regardless of the ambient temperature. This system creates snow for our snow tubing hill that is comprised of tiny snow crystals and is virtually indistinguishable to real snowflakes. Thanks to our snowmaking technology, one machine gives us the capacity to produce up to 200 tons of snowfall a day regardless of ambient temperatures—allowing our guests to enjoy snow tubing for an extended portion of our peak season.
